Nursery and Primary School for the poor & needy

Nursery and Primary School
Started in : 1994 Lives touched : 500

Brief Summary:
In 1992, HOPE foundation started a medical clinic in the Id-Gha Mohella slum of Bangalore. The slum was thickly populated with many needs. Many of the people residing in the slum were illiterate, and they did not have any dreams to educate their children. They believed in child labor, as boys with their father worked as mechanics and carpenters while the girls with the mother as housemaids. We realised the need to start the school in this slum.

In 1994, when HOPE foundation started a small pre-school, we had 30 children. A small room was hired to teach nursery children with a teacher and a helper. Before starting the school, we had to visit the houses of these children, and teach them the value of education. Among 200 families, 30 families agreed to register their children in the school. In the beginning, we used go to the house of each child get them dressed, comb their hair and if it is necessary help them to brush their teeth and give bath. We did this for eight months to just get them on the track. To motivate the children to come to the school we were giving high protein mix cake. After some time the children learnt manners and few alphabets and rhymes and the parents got inspired. In the next year, 150 new children came to register. This gave us a vision to start a proper school.
Now, we have a school with the whole building hired, with 12 teachers and 264 children are studying in the school. It has classes from LKG to 7th standard. The Government has already recognized the school from 1st to 7th standard.

Since the begginning of this school a lot of wonderful changes have taken place in the lives of th students and their families. This blog is all about us sharing these stories and events that takes place in our school. Keep coming back for updates.
